1955–1963: Academic secondary school in Vienna's eighth district

Winter semester 1963/1964: Enrolment at the Vienna University of Technology, studies of Architecture
From winter semester 1967/1968: Studies of History of Art and Architecture, and Classical Archaeology at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Vienna
Graduation at the Department of Art History at the University of Vienna, title of doctoral thesis: Studien zur Klosterbaukunst in Österreich unter den letzten Babenbergern (studies on the architecture of monasteries built in Austria during the final years of the Babenberg reign), supervisors: Prof. Renate Wagner-Rieger and Prof. Gerhard Schmidt
