Dr Luise Reitstätter is a cultural scientist, heading the Laboratory for Cognitive Research in Art History (CReA). Her fields of work include practices of contemporary art, visual and material culture analysis, museology and exhibition studies as well as empirical methods in social research. In 2013, she completed her doctorate with a study on the exhibition as a potential sphere of action in sociology and cultural studies (“Die Ausstellung verhandeln” transcript 2015). Since then, she has worked on numerous research projects, for example on museum missions and cultural participation (“Right to the Museum?”, PI), rural images of longing (“City-Country-Child”, “City-Country-Image”, Co-PI), language and inclusion in museums (“Say it simple. Say it out loud”, PI), digital art education (“personal.curator”) or Commons movements (“AXIOM”, “Commons as a Way of Thinking and Innovation Strategy in Design”). From November 2017 until October 2023, she worked as a post-doc at the Department of Art History at the University of Vienna. Currently, she is leading the third-party-funded research project “The Museum Gaze” together with Prof. Raphael Rosenberg and Prof. Enkelejda Kasneci.
