5th Conference of the European Association for Asian Art and Archaeology
29th August – 2nd September 2027, University of Vienna, Austria.
We are pleased to announce the 5th biannual conference of the European Association for Asian Art and Archaeology (EAAA). It will be organized by the Department of Art History at the University of Vienna and held from 29th August to 2nd September 2027.
The 5th EAAA Conference aims to:
- open a dialogue between scholars of Asian art and archaeology and to offer a platform for the presentation and discussion of recent research.
- highlight the significance of global research on Asian art and archaeology.
- provide a stage for research on the many collections of Asian art in Europe.
- reflect on the historical approach that has been prevalent in the field and to critically engage with existing art theories and methodologies.
- formulate new research vistas, approaches and methods in Asian art and archaeology.
Scholars from Europe and beyond are invited to submit proposals dealing with the art, archaeology, museum studies, methodology, critical theory or performing arts of any region of Asia from the Asian Pacific to the eastern Mediterranean as well as transregional research.
We encourage advanced doctoral candidates and early career researchers to submit proposals.
The language of the conference is English. The conference will be held in person. All speakers are expected to present on site.
The call for papers will close on 15th September 2026.
