Completion of a master's or diploma programme in the humanities or cultural studies, completion of an equivalent programme at a recognised Austrian or foreign post-secondary educational institution or completion of a subject-specific degree programme at a university of applied sciences in accordance with the special regulations of study law.

The new doctoral programme, which takes three years to complete, came into effect on 1 October 2009 (2008/2009 winter semester). The applicable curriculum was published in the University Gazette on 11 May 2009 (in German).
The date of the public defence is to be arranged with the supervisors of the doctoral thesis and the Director of Doctoral Studies, Univ.-Prof. Dr. Sebastian Schütze.
Students should enquire as to the availability of a seminar room at the Department on the prospective date with Michaela Golubits. The seminar room can be booked with Michaela Golubits as well.
